The Middleboro / Lakeville Rotary Club typically awards four to five scholarships annually, made possible through the generous efforts of its members and community support of our annual auction. These scholarship opportunities are for any students living in Middleboro or Lakeville. We send applications to Middleborough High School, Apponequet Regional High School, Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School, Bristol County Agricultural High School and Old Rochester Regional High School. This year we proudly awarded scholarships to four outstanding high school seniors - two from Middleborough High School, Melina Freitas and Olivia Cheney, and two from Apponequet High School, Audrey Keller & Will Levrault, continuing a cherished tradition of supporting youth and education in our communities. This year's recipients exemplify the values of service, ambition, and leadership that Rotary strives to nurture. They are not solely academics, they are also excellent examples of individuals that are active in their communities without expectation of reward - true examples of Service Above Self.
In a heartwarming dinner held in their honor on 9 July 2025 at the Fireside restaurant, the students - joined by their families - were recognized not only with scholarship checks, but with enthusiastic applause and encouragement from our club members. Three of the recipients were able to attend the event, while one - Olivia Cheney (MHS) - was already off to college orientation … an early start on her exciting journey ahead. Each student attending shared their academic majors including Biology, Engineering and Marketing and future plans, offering a glimpse into the promising paths they are forging.
We wish these young scholars success and fulfillment as they take their next steps. The future looks bright!
