This September, the Middleboro/Lakeville Rotary was honored to welcome a bright young student, Austin Card from Mary K. Goode Elementary School, who recently returned from a transformative educational journey to Washington, D.C.Recommended by his fifth-grade teacher Mr. James O'Brien, he was sent on a week-long visit to the nation’s capital. Austin and scholars from across the region joined at the University of Maryland to learn firsthand how our government works. From touring the Capitol building to engaging with civic institutions, the experience offered a powerful introduction to democracy in action.
Thanks to a subsidy from our Rotary Club, the trip became a reality for this promising young scholar. On September 3rd, he visited our club to share highlights from his adventure and personally thank members for their support. Accompanied by his proud family, he spoke with poise and enthusiasm about what he learned and how the experience deepened his understanding of civic responsibility.
We are proud to have played a role in this young man’s journey and look forward to seeing where his curiosity and leadership take him next. Supporting youth education and engagement is at the heart of Rotary’s mission ... and this visit reminded us why it matters.
